H.R. McMaster

H.R. McMaster served in the US Army for thirty-four years. He retired as a lieutenant general in June 2018 after serving as the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. McMaster held various senior command and staff positions including Director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center and commanding general of the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, where he oversaw all training and education for the army’s infantry, armor, and cavalry force. He commanded the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment in Iraq and Eagle Troop, Second Armored Cavalry Regiment in Operation Desert Storm. McMaster holds a PhD in military history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his most recent book is Battlegrounds: The Fight to Defend the Free World.
